It was the table project from hell, but it is finally all done!!! Original table: $12.50 from craigslist Wood top & supplies: $56 (thanks to a gift card…plus I was able to return the sander!) Time: let’s not even go there All in all, I am very pleased with the outcome. Now lets hope the table lasts for years to come! Also, new house rule: use a coaster or else!
BLERGH: the table project from hell
So I’m refurbishing my $12.50 awesome craigslist coffee table. It’s a great size, but the frame was worse for wear and the glass was SUPER heavy and all fucked up on the sides (it actually cut my heel once; I bleed for 2 hours).

Anyways. I bought a new piece of wood for the top and sanded and stained it last weekend. It looks badass. This weekend I was planning to sand and stain the wood frame.

As I started sanding it on Friday, I realized there was THREE layers of paint. Fuckers. It took an hour to sand down 6” of the top trim.

So today, I went to Home Depot and talked to a dude and bought a $50 hand power sander. Awesome right? WRONG. It took 2 hours to sand down the remaining trim. Matt said that it shouldn’t be taking that long and asked his dad. His dad said I should instead use paint stripping gel to get the paint off and THEN sand down the wood. So I go BACK to Home Depot and buy the supplies.
When I get home, my roommates home so I explain to her my misadventures. I say how I’m not going to re-do one portion of the frame because you wouldn’t be able to see it when it’s covered with a solid top but she wasn’t sure what I was talking about. So, we take the finished, stained table top and put it in the frame.
And guess what.
IT WAS TOO BIG.
THE HOME DEPOT GENTLEMAN DID NOT CUT IT TO THE CORRECT SIZE. EVEN THOUGH I GAVE HIM THE PROPER DIMENSIONS. MULTIPLE TIMES.
I just can’t even believe it. Tomorrow I’ll be paint stripping/sanding/staining the frame, and then when I go back to Home Depot to return the sander (I want my $50 back!) and other supplies I haven’t used, I’m going to have to take my beautifully stained piece of wood and have them cut it again.
Sigh. I should have just gone to Ikea.
Christmas presents are all wrapped up thanks to Man Made DIY!
(yeah yeah, my newspaper cutting skills suck, so what…)
You may not be able to tell, but my “shin guards” are actually made from long socks and tape….chicka chicka yeaaaaaa.
My company has a YMCA soccer team that plays once a week. Tonight was my 3rd time going out, meaning it was my 3rd time playing soccer…ever. But we won!!! Our first game!!! 5-3!!! I’d like to think that my fearless defense (that’s 12 years of basketball for you) and SWEET ASSIST had something to do with that!

Since I now have a tea pot, I obviously need loose leaf tea. Since I have loose leaf tea, I obviously need a container to store it in. Since I have a container, I obviously needed to put chalkboard paint on it.
The Fiji green tea smells delicious & looks so pretty. It has mango and some other fruit in it, but the fruit flavor is not overbearing at all. It was a good pick by Matt.
Apparently you can’t rent a hand power sander from Home Depot, only floor sanders.
This poses a problem. I wanted to re-stain our wooden kitchen table and bring it some new life.
Ah, sweet relief.
My feet hurt all the time. Probably cause I wear bad shoes and don’t have good posture and whatever else my parents say.
ANYWAYS. I discovered the best foot massager the other day when my pill bottle fell under my desk and I used my foot to grab it:
Put a pill bottle on the ground, put your foot on top, and roll that bad boy. The more pressure the better. It feels so good.
That is all. Back to procrastinating.
