Today may have been the longest day, and I may have only accomplished half the things I set out to do (but, let’s be honest, I was overachieving anyways), and I may have been in a fit of rage and sadness from 5:09pm - 5:37pm, but it’s all good because I now own the coolest apron (& kitchen timer & mug) thanks to my awesome cousins AND I get to go home in 2 days AND my boyfriend is officially a college graduate.
File under: weird family inside jokes; my cousin is the best; damn my brother for thinking the name Fong (from a specific moment in Seinfeld with J. Peterman) was funny enough to call me; dying from laughter
My grandma used to make me chicken strips all the time when I was a kid. She never actually taught me how to make them, but I watched her do it so much I eventually picked up the recipe.
And it’s stupidly easy. Here’s how:
- Toast a slice of bread to a crisp, but don’t burn it. Break the bread into little pieces and add it to a blender or food processor. Blend/pulse/whatever until it’s in fine pieces. Put in a bowl.
- Pour some flour into a different bowl. Crack an egg into a third bowl and whisk it until mixed.
- Take your (defrosted) chicken (I’d recommend tenderloins as they’re small and thin) and dip it first into the egg mixture, then the flour mixture, and then lastly the bread crumbs.
- Place the chicken in a pan with hot oil. Cook for a few minutes on each side on medium heat.
- And presto! Enjoy.

In a extremely heated & long winded tax debate on some chart my dad posted on facebook, he takes a time out to tell it like it is.
I’m babysitting my 6 & 2 year old cousins this weekend as thank you to my aunt for helping me get a job.
It’s been an interesting night but its quite flattering when 2 little kids fight over who’s room you get to sleep in
I love talking on the phone to my aunt. She talks and talks and talks, and then, out of nowhere, it’s “Okay-honey-thanks-for-calling-love you-bye.”
My parents have their friends over for Memorial Day so they decided to all FaceTime with me. Which meant the phone was passed around every 30 seconds and people kept sticking their heads in the way and made silly comments. They’re crazy but I love them.
After washing the dishes of all 50 guests (without being asked!)...
- Me: Should we get all the platters and put the food in tupperware and wash those dishes?
- My Brother: Ummm. I don't know. Are we that good of kids?
- Me: I guess we should be once in our lives.
My mom brought me my grandmother’s watch and pin from Iran (Taken with instagram)
I feel so sick.
My grandma died during the night. I found out through Facebook. I’m stuck at work right now. My stomach is in knots, I’m shivering, and I’m having trouble breathing. I talked to my dad and he confirmed. My poor mother.
Thankfully, I was able to speak to my grandma last night. Sorta. She could barely speak. But I was able to tell her I finished college and that I loved her so much. We definitely had a language barrier - my Farsi isn’t that good at all - but man, I loved her. She would live with us for a year or two at a time and I loved having her around. She’d watch Scrubs and Friends with me (she hated JD’s day dreams and loved Rachel). She’d cook me my favorite foods. She’d slip me money when I’d go out. She loved my friends. She was so excited for me to finish college and still called me “Mrs. Doctor” even though I wasn’t planning on going to medical school anymore.
Oh god. I just want to cry. I keep getting calls from family and friends. She was so loved by everyone.
Rest in Peace, Mama Shamsi.
I got off work at tours, I have to go into Home Plate in a few hours, my grandma isn’t doing well at all, and I won’t see Amanda till June.
What’s that mean? Beer and Arrested Development.
My mom is headed to Iran today because my grandma is back in the hospital with internal bleeding. Back in April, when my grandma was in the US, she suffered a bad fall and was in the hospital for 3 months. During the first two weeks in the hospital she almost died twice. After she came home, she did physical therapy for 3 months. At one point, she had to go to the hospital because she was coughing up blood. Anyways, she’s been back in Iran since August and everything’s been more or less okay. Some days my mom calls me and tells me she’s not doing so hot, but she’s gotten through it.
Last night when I was getting off work, my mom calls, says hello, asks how work was, and then says, “I wanted to let you know I’m going to Iran tomorrow.” I almost started crying because I thought it meant my grandma died, and just gasped “oh no!” My mom reassured me my grandma was still alive, but they just don’t know what’s going to happen so she wants to be there just in case. My grandma is a tough old lady, but she’s been sick a lot this past year so it’s all just a bit scary right now.
My mom texted me this today during the game (she’s the one in the middle).
Ever since the kids left for college, the parents started doing tequila shots during the super bowl…
