If someone were to ask me what I’d considered my best skill, I’d have to say it’s my ability to surround myself with amazing people.
This morning I woke up to flowers & funfetti cake from my roommate. She even used my favorite vase that she made (she does glass blowing). We’ll be baking together tonight. :)
I came home from work and finally opened my present from Kristi, which arrived on Monday. As I opened it, I was confused - the top of the gift looked like Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs, which I had bought for HER two years back. After going through the maze of cards, I discover she got her copy of the book signed for ME because she knew how much I loved Chuck Klosterman.
And, in a little bit, Amanda and Jacob will be coming over to continue the celebrations.
I’m a lucky gal :)

San Diego Thankgiving 2011 = Great success. I love my friends.

We ate, we drank, we watched Friends, we watched football, and we ate some more.

And I can’t to do this all again in a few days!

The turkey is in the oven….

T-minus ~8 hours until San Diego Thanksgiving.

Have you ever wondered what leaves are like in Boston in the fall? Well now you know.
Have you ever wondered what having a beyond amazing friend is like? Well you need to meet Kristi.

Reasons why I’m like Monica Geller:

I pay bills as soon as I get them.

MONICA: Okay, so I’m responsible, I’m organised. But hey, I can be a kook.

ROSS: Alright, you madcap gal. Try to imagine this. The phone bill arrives, but you don’t pay it right away.

MONICA: Why not?

ROSS: Because you’re a kook! Instead you wait until they send you a notice.

Welcome to the real world… It sucks.

True that, Monica.

My trouble with moving is then I start looking through all my stuff…

For example, I re-discovered “Kristi + Afshawn: Journal of Might: #3,” which featured a very interesting set of Harry Potter classes. Needless to say, Kristi and I are very nerdyawesome individuals.

I’m not sure if I’ve ever shared about the “Journals of Might” and I sure don’t feel like packing and/or working out, so here we go…

I met Kristi in 8th grade PE. To be honest, the details are fuzzy. I do remember her giving me a huge box of mini-Toblerone bars for my birthday (I specifically remember it was in the locker room after PE, too) and us creating our fake countries during 9th grade Geography class.

In October of 10th grade, Kristi moved away to Roseville, which was about 3 hours away from Morgan Hill. I convinced our 10th grade Honors English teacher to let us have a going away party for her and Kristi’s friend Alyx and I orchestrated a surprise going away party at her house. I was so sad Kristi was moving. I mean, 3 hours away in high school is VERY FAR AWAY. Plus, I wouldn’t be getting my license until 11th grade cause I was baby. We kept in touch via livejournal (yep) and writing letters to each other. I’m not entirely sure how I came up with the idea of getting a journal…I think that was the time period I was reading a lot of books where the book was told via the main character’s journal or via letters between characters…but I bought an awesome journal and gave it to Kristi as a Christmas present.

The concept of the journal was simple - one of us would keep for a few months and write in it as much as possible. Then, we’d pack it up, usually with a small trinket or mix CD, and send it off to the other. One journal lead to the next, and now, 5.5 years later, we’re on journal #6. We alternate who buys the journal and we keep whichever journal we bought. The journals have been around the world, thanks to Kristi who’s a little world travel, and contain a lot - everything from friendship drama to my relationship with Matt. From accomplishments to failures. From happy times to bad times. These journals have kept us incredibly close and I think have allowed our friendship to blossom in new and exciting ways.

I’m not sure how much longer Kristi and I will continue to keep a journal, but I sincerely hope it is until one of us is unable to write any longer. <#

Reason #284 Morgan is the best roommate in the world:

She helps me dig through the recycling dumpster at 11 pm to find a graduation card I wanted to save but accidentally tossed this morning.
